Abstract

This study measured the quality of life and health locus of control in personality scores for continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients as an attempt to give nurses basic data for establishing realistic nursing goals and strategies to help the dialysis patients attain a better quality of life.
For this study, 50 continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients were selected from 2.General Hospitals located in Taequ City.
Two kinds of research instruments were used in this study, namely one was the Health Locus of Control Scale developed by Wallston and the other was the Quality of Life Scale developed by Ro, You Ja.
The findings of -this study were as follows.
The mean score of Health Locus of Control in personality of the subjects was 26.68. Subjects were touna -co belong to Internal. Health Locus of Control in personality.
Locus of Control in Personality was significantly related to sex and occupation.
The mean score of quality of the subjects was 2.88.
For each factor in the quality of life scale, the mean scores were as follow: : 2.69 for emotional state and economic life, 2.89 for self-esteem, 2.57 for physical state and fuction,3.12 for relationship with neighbors, 3..31i for family relationships.
The results of the analysis of the relatioinship between the quality of life scores and general characteristics were as tollows : as tar as the quality of life scores is concerned, a qroup of the employed was significantly higher than that of the unemployed.
A significant corelation was shown between the subjects´ Health Locus -oiE Control of Control in Personality and the quality of life score. (r= - . 3293, P . 01)
